Paint Rock Farm, NC
The Paint Rock Farm is an amazing place to visit! If you are looking for a place to get back in touch with nature and enjoy some tranquility, this is the place for you! Hidden away in the mountains of North Carolina, this is a real treat. Getting there was interesting and I think I acquired many more grey hairs on the way. As you get closer, the road becomes increasingly narrow and the driveway is a rather steep gravel road. With our setup, I was real worried we wouldn’t make it! But as you see, of course we did.
Once you make it up the driveway you will find yourself on this unexpected plateau. There is a large field on the left with cows in the distance. There is a section surrounded by a fence where organic hemp is grown. Unfortunately we came late in the season and there were no plants to be seen. The farm does offer a range of hemp products for purchase which can be found in the barn.
The large barn was once used for drying tobacco. It has been restored real nicely and has plenty of rustic tables and chairs available both inside and outside. We visited during the week and there weren’t many other guests at the time. We did however learn that this is a very popular spot for weddings and other special event.
The farm also has multiple glamping cabins for rent. Several have a view of the French Broad River, while others are dispersed throughout the field. There are also multiple tent sites available. A bath house is also available, all of which is extremely clean and welcoming! There is a hiking trail leading down to the river, but it was a little to steep to take our crazy dogs along.
We were able to set up our campsite in the far corner of the the field, next to the hemp patch. It was so peaceful and we greatly enjoyed our stay. Once it got dark we leaned back in our chairs and watched for shooting stars. Absolutely amazing!
