Pensacola Beach, Big Lagoon State Park, Florida
After visiting Warm Springs, Georgia, which was pretty chilly, we headed south to Florida. We spent a couple of nights in Pensacola, visited the UFO House there, and then continued on to Big Lagoon State Park. The sand and ocean at Pensacola Beach were amazing! And we were alone! Although dogs aren’t allowed at all beaches, we were in a special area that does allow them on the leash. Brandy and Whisky both love going to the beach, so this was a special treat for them as well.
Big Lagoon State Park was also nice, but several sections were closed due to storm damage. That was real unfortunate! We had been looking forward to going on a wildlife viewing tour. At the time we were there, only a couple of trails were open and only a small portion over the lagoon. We were intrigued by the alligator sign, but didn’t see any. Trust me - we looked!!
From here we continued heading west through Alabama and Mississippi until we reached New Orleans, Louisiana. The trip to NOLA complemented our visit in Warm Springs, GA, since Tulane University was also involved in the development of the Polio vaccine - and there are some unsolved stories surrounding this topic that took place there……
